I set up Roundcircles Marketing in 2008 having worked a number of years for SME's in marketing management roles.
Back in 1998 when I was a PA, my employer asked me to put together an advert. When I said "but I don't know anything about marketing" I was told that I knew enough about the company - and afterall, marketing was just common sense. Not totally satisfied with the answer, I decided to study the 'art of marketing'.
After completing the Institute of Marketing's Advanced Certificate and Post-Graduate Diploma in Marketing, I then studied an Executive MBA at Newcastle University. (I'm not a serial studier, I just like to keep my brain active!)
Always up for a challenge, setting out on my own was probably one of the most daunting, but most rewarding things I've done.
I've found that Managers and Directors often don't have the time to devote to marketing; whether it's ensuring sales have marketing materials such as case studies, their website content is continually updated, their company's persona is reflected consistently throughout all marketing materials. If they don't have someone in-house, it's things like this that can often be left to the next best person who's willing to do it or it just doesn't get done at all.
I chose the name 'Roundcircles' to reflect the way I see marketing; it's an evolving process that has a beginning, a middle and an end, but that needs to be reviewed, measured and improved regularly. I'm adding value by making sure the loop is closed - a goal achieved - well... I'm getting things done.
15 years later.. I believe that marketing touches every aspect of a business and every aspect of a business should operate with a company's marketing goals in mind.
